Clean Energy Sign Ups

Gary Green, RACE president and Jay Whelan, immediate past president of RACE, beside the sign showing that Ridgefield powered to first place in the community challenge between Ridgefield and six surrounding towns. The contest ran from October 18th 2007 and Earth Day, April 22nd 2008. Over 400 Ridgefield households signed up for clean energy. As a result of this tremendous achievement, Ridgefield will receive four solar panels. Ridgefield earns a free 1 kilowatt photovoltaic panel for every 50 sign ups, paid for by the CT Clean Energy Fund.
This fall, the first set of solar panels will be installed on the fire house and the Recreation Center. Stay tuned for the specifics. It’s not too late to sign up for clean energy, if you haven’t yet done so. Sign Up For Clean Energy!
Kill A WattsRACE has partnered with the Ridgefield Library to provide six Kill A Watt energy meters available for loan to library card holders. These devices are helpful in determining how much electricity individual appliances consume by the hour. Example: plug your refrigerator into the Kill A Watt and then plug the Kill A Watt into an outlet; wait twenty-four hours and an LED display will provide a pretty accurate reading on how many kilowatts per hour your fridge has used. Instructions are provided to figure out the consumption rate per week, month and year, as well as the cost in dollars. This is also a great way to discover how much those "vampire appliances" are really sucking out out of your wallet... and the power grid.
